How to Block a Number on Your Smartphone
You don’t have to tolerate the aggravation of routinely getting spoofed calls. You can ban calls from telemarketers or other obnoxious callers if you frequently receive their calls. There are several reasons to block a number, including a recalcitrant ex, persistent telemarketers, or those con artists who like spoofing. It’s time to block that number after you’ve had enough of your phone buzzing. Yet how? The actions to take based on your OS and carrier are shown below.
Any calls from blacklisted numbers will then be sent directly to voicemail on your Android phone. Additionally, the person whose number you blocked won’t be informed that you blocked their number, and there is no way for them to confirm it. For protection against receiving unwanted calls, including spam, most cell phones block incoming phone numbers. You also have the choice to prevent your own Caller ID from appearing on the recipient’s handset. On both Android and iOS phones, both settings are available.
Android
While the process for blocking a call can differ based on the manufacturer of the mobile device and the Android version, in most circumstances, blocking calls is done through the Phone app or Messages app. The process for blocking a number might vary greatly because there are so many companies that produce phones with the Android operating system (Samsung, Google, Huawei, Xiaomi, LG, etc.). Additionally, this capability is not natively available on Android versions of Marshmallow and earlier. Your carrier might support it if you are using an outdated version of the software, or you might be able to block a number using an app. On your Android mobile, go to the settings of the Phone app and select the Blocked numbers option to block a contact or phone number.
Here’s a full step-by-step breakdown:
- Open Phone
- Tap the More Options menu, which is denoted by the 3 vertical dots just on the top-right of the app, when on the Dial or Call Logs tab.
- Choose Call Settings from the menu.
- In the call settings, select Decline with the message and Call blocking. Select Blocked numbers.
Or
- Press “Block” after manually entering the phone number from which you wish to stop receiving calls and texts.
However, if the number is unknown, this won’t work. Therefore, Android offers a variety of techniques to ban spam calls from unknown numbers all at once if you’re sick of receiving them.
Apple iOS Phones
From the recent section on the mobile, in FaceTime, or in Messages, you can block numbers. If one area blocks a number, all three are also blocked. From each area:
- Toggle the symbol by the phone number (or conversation).
- On the Info screen, click Block this Caller at the bottom.
You can also choose to only receive iMessages from contacts on your contact list. Once at least one message has been filtered, a new tab for Unknown Senders appears. You continue to receive messages, but neither they nor any notifications will be automatically displayed or sent to you.
To filter iMessages
- Open Settings.
- Tap Messages.
- Scroll to and tap Unknown & Spam.
- Turn on Filter Unknown Senders.
You can regulate outbound caller ID display in addition to regulating incoming caller ID through call blocking. On a call-by-call basis, this feature can be set up to operate as a permanent block or a temporary block.
Permanent Block from Caller ID
Ask for a line block from your cell phone provider over the phone to permanently hide your phone number from outgoing Caller ID. This alteration is both irreversible and permanent. The decision is yours, despite customer service’s best efforts to persuade you to change your mind. Additional blocking options, such as blocking particular numbers or messages, are supported by a number of carriers. If you have an iPhone or Android device, you can change a single setting to automatically block your number. For every call you make, your number will seem private.
